All Aboard The Navatek

We took a trip aboard the Navatek today to experience their royal sunset dinner cruise. Departing from Aloha Tower, the Navatek offers a daily, 2-hour sunset dinner cruise. The ship travels down the southern coast of Oahu, passing Waikiki, Diamond Head, and Kahala before turning around in Hawaii Kai. Even with the cloudy weather our adventure was very enjoyable:

Overall, a very great trip...and not just because they offered a steak and lobster dinner.
There was a good balance of entertainment and fun for all guests. And again, even with the cloudy weather we still enjoyed a beautiful sunset.

WiFi Access Now Available

Thanks to the Board, residents and guests now have internet access and a printing station at the Royal Kuhio. If you've brought your laptop on vacation, WiFi access is also available.

The access station is located on the first floor, left side, behind the mailroom. A valid credit card will be necessary to use this service.

Also available are new fitness machines on the 7th floor.

These new amenities should make your vacation in Hawaii just a little more comfortable.

Tenants & the BIG catch

Good tenants are hard to find. Even when you scan their credit report and rental history, you never really know what you're getting until it's too late. My grandfather's beach house is one example.

This is the beach house last year. Simple single level home, concrete construction right on the beach. One year later, we were left with this:

And this is just the yard...Inside, we found that the place was not cleaned and a number of things were broken (I'd put up the pics, but it's just too gruesome to look at.) So lucky me ended up scrubbing bathrooms, changing window cranks and re-tiling a bedroom (thank God for peel-and-stick tile!). Anyway, there is a little more work to do, but the rest will be done in a week. I posted the vacancy on Craigslist (http://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/apa/666251226.htm), but still no takers yet.

So, the moral of the story is Landlords, be careful who you rent to. And on the flipside, Tenants, take better care of the place you rent. Otherwise, no security deposit refund!

On a side note, I was able to squeeze in a little fun time while fixing things and ended up with this monster catch:

YAY! 2-lb. stickfish! Not worth eating, but he put up a good fight.

Trip to the Big Island of Hawaii

On July 7th, I took an off-island trip with my wife to visit my client and their family on the Big Island. They recently purchased a townhome in the brand-new Kulalani subdivision at the Mauna Lani Resort. What's really amazing is seeing this:

Currently available as a vacation rental, this 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath offers over 2,000 sq. ft. of living space. Other than that, my wife and I stayed at the Hilton Waikoloa Village. Our only regret was that we did not have enough time to explore the hotel...it was just too big. There are too many things to do and not enough time to eat...I mean, experience everything in a single day. I suppose there is always next time.
